Also make sure you do not have Privacy Pin enabled. Go to Main Menu->Bluetooth and press the center button. Make Sure Conct is set to PC/Mobile and Privacy Pin is OFF. Hope this helps. This can happen if the memory log becomes full. Please try this:

  1. Take the battery out of the unit and hold down the power button for 30 seconds.
  2. Put the battery back in and turn it on.
  3. Wait several minutes for the screen to clear until you can press buttons.
  4. Then when you can press buttons, go to Main Menu->Memory Options.
  5. Clear the data log. 

This should fix the startup issue you are having.

Hello, That is strange it is only working 1-way. What are the names of some of the profiles on your Kestrel? Sometimes if there are special characters, Windows is not able to save the files correctly and it won't appear. What version of the Profile Loader are you using as well? We changed the way that the rifle twist is entered with firmware 1.20 and higher. If you have an 11 inch rifle twist, please enter this as 1:11.00 in. This is read as a 1 rotation in every 11 inches of barrel travel. Previously this was just entered as 11.00 in. If instead you have a 9 inch twist, it would be entered as 1:9.00 in.

Hello, The issue is that you do not have a Bluetooth version of the Kestrel Elite. So there is not going to be anyway to connect the Kestrel to your iPhone. If you want the Bluetooth (i.e. LiNK) version, I would suggest going back to the purchaser to exchange it and pay the difference for the Bluetooth version. If you just want to transfer gun profiles, you could purchase our USB Transfer Cable and use the Applied Ballistics Profile Loader for Windows. It may be trying to find a firmware update but having issues.

  • Make sure you have a good Wifi connection.
  • Then you can also try doing a soft reset on the Kestrel.
  • Take the battery out, hold down power button for 30 seconds, put battery back in. (This will not affect your gun profiles).
  • Finally if neither of those work, i would try uninstalling and then reinstalling the LiNK Ballistics application.

Hello David, I think you are referring to the Target Card in the Kestrel LiNK Ballistics App? The range and DOF values can either be entered on the Kestrel and imported into the app or in the app and exported to the Kestrel. Either way you do it, the solutions would be based on the current gun/bullet profile that is active on the Kestrel. So the solutions would be based on how "true" the current gun profile is. Hello, You can either connect with the USB Cable or our Bluetooth dongle. Since you are using the cable, the program will not find the dongle but this is fine. The program however should be finding your Kestrel and it should appear in the left window box. First make sure the USB cable is connected to the computer and the Kestrel before you open the program. On the Kestrel, go to the Main Menu and go to Data Port and make sure this is turned ON. If this doesn't work, take a look at the two optical holes in the battery door. Are the clear / see-through? If you have a Bluetooth (LiNK) model, you can export the data from the mobile apps and email to an account to view the data. If you want to use a PC or MAC (or don't have Bluetooth model), you could use the data transfer cable: https://kestrelinstruments.com/usb-data-transfer-cable-kestrel-5-series

Hello, The calibration kits can be used indefinitely as long as you don't contaminate the two salt mixtures. So theoretically you could do all 75 with one kit but it would take some time to complete. The actual procedure on the Kestrels is an hour at one RH level and an hour at another RH level but we want to allow the Kestrels 24 hours in the container before running the process. That is why we say 50 hours but really 48 hours are just the Kestrel sitting in the containers. You can space them out to have 2 going at one time with one kit, one in one jar, one in another. But it really depends the timeframe in which you need to complete these. So more kits would allow more Kestrels to be calibrating at one time. Hope this helps. Hello Michael, The HUD will come with a mount that attaches to the pic rail of the gun. As long as you have a LiNK model, you can connect the Kestrel to the HUD, Application or Laser Range finder through Bluetooth. To connect the HUD to a laser range finder (certain models only), you would need the additional cable. This is all still being worked out and will be more clear closer to product release. Hello Bert, When capturing direction of fire, the angle will be shown as an absolute value. So if facing East it will show 3 o'clock. However the wind direction is a relative value based on the direction of fire. So when you are firing at 3 o'clock and have a wind direction from 12 o'clock, this will instead show as a wind from 9 o'clock which is around what you are getting. This is because the wind is technically coming from 9 o'clock (West) in relation to the DOF value. If your DOF value is 12 o'clock then the wind direction would show whatever direction you are facing. I hope this helps. Let me know if you need more information on this. In order to maintain that the wind speed readings will be within spec, you should face the front of the unit towards the vacuum. You won't be able to see the screen though, so i would probably suggest using our Min/Max/Avg page for the readings. You can press start for Min/Max/Avg, take the reading and press stop for Min/Max/Avg and turn the screen around to see the results.

We do not recommend cleaning the sensors with any type of soap or chemical. This can affect the membrane and overall results of the unit. The one thing we can recommend is LIGHTLY cleaning the area out with a vacuum. Try not to get to close to the membrane and damage it however as it should be done as gently as possible.

Ideally the range is up to 100 feet. Probably closer to 50 feet most times. Depends on the conditions, any metal or water will definitely make it worse, even high humidity conditions.

You can set the Auto Shutdown to OFF and then you would need to manually turn it off each time.

We don't have the registration site up just yet. You will be covered based on the serial number of you unit however.

This may be a cache issue with the app not pulling down the latest version.

  1. Go to your Settings on the phone.
  2. Go to Apps or Application manager.
  3. Select the Kestrel LiNK Ballistics Application.
  4. Go to the Storage tab. Clear Cache in the app.
  5. Don't do Clear Data as this will erase gun profiles.
  6. After clearing the cache reconnect to the app and it should notify you of an update.

Make sure you have a good WIFI connection when connecting to download the firmware.

Let me know if you still have issues. The other option is to uninstall and reinstall the app but you will lose saved gun profiles in the app this way.

You will need to select the profiles that you want to send over before the Send button becomes active. At the top of the program is a "Select" button. Press this and radio boxes will appear next to your profiles. Check the boxes of the profiles you want to send and the Send button will be activated and should work then.

Please try this. Unplug all the peripheral from your computer including the Bluetooth dongle. Turn off the computer and wait 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, turn computer back on and replug in all the peripherals. After that, it should recognize the Bluetooth dongle.

If you do not need a compass to detect direction of fire or wind direction, then you can use the Kestrel 5000 with LiNK

Need LiNK version however as this is Bluetooth.

Or you can just go with the Kestrel DROP D3 for straight environmentals but no wind at all.

If you want to have the ability to calculate wind direction and direction of fire, the Kestrel 5500 with LiNK is the solution as this model contains a compass.

Again make sure you get the LiNK version.
