Your question got cut off so I cannot fully see everything you wrote. You should not pair the Kestrel to the phone itself, this is unnecessary and can cause issues. Also make sure you do not have Privacy Pin enabled. Go to Main Menu->Bluetooth and press the center button. Make Sure Conct is set to PC/Mobile and Privacy Pin is OFF. Hope this helps. This can happen if the memory log becomes full. Please try this:

  1. Take the battery out of the unit and hold down the power button for 30 seconds.
  2. Put the battery back in and turn it on.
  3. Wait several minutes for the screen to clear until you can press buttons.
  4. Then when you can press buttons, go to Main Menu->Memory Options.
  5. Clear the data log. 

This should fix the startup issue you are having.

We do not have the registration pages setup on the new website yet, so there isn't a way currently. Please know however that we will honor the 5 year warranty based on the serial number of the unit so there isn't any risk if you do not register it.

Hello, Can you please tell me a little more of the issues you are having? Which product are you talking about and can you send me the serial numbers? Has anything changed since last week, for example a firmware update, the application updated or phone OS updated since then? I'm assuming you are talking about the Kestrel LiNK app as well? Do they appear on the screen to connect? Are you trying to pair them directly to your phone? And what type of phone are you using. Any additional information would help trying to get this resolved. Are you using iOS or Android? What email provider(s) are you using? For the ones that have a file get attached, does it send the email but not appear in the email account? Have you looked in the junk folder possibly? The email provider may be blocking the attachment possibly?

We changed the way that the rifle twist is entered with firmware 1.20 and higher. If you have an 11 inch rifle twist, please enter this as 1:11.00 in. This is read as a 1 rotation in every 11 inches of barrel travel. Previously this was just entered as 11.00 in. If instead you have a 9 inch twist, it would be entered as 1:9.00 in.

It may be trying to find a firmware update but having issues.

  • Make sure you have a good Wifi connection.
  • Then you can also try doing a soft reset on the Kestrel.
  • Take the battery out, hold down power button for 30 seconds, put battery back in. (This will not affect your gun profiles).
  • Finally if neither of those work, i would try uninstalling and then reinstalling the LiNK Ballistics application.

If you have a Bluetooth (LiNK) model, you can export the data from the mobile apps and email to an account to view the data. If you want to use a PC or MAC (or don't have Bluetooth model), you could use the data transfer cable: https://kestrelinstruments.com/usb-data-transfer-cable-kestrel-5-series

Yes the unit is designed to keep recording data, even when turned off. To not have it collect data when turned off, you would need to either take out the battery or go to Main Menu->Memory Options-> and turn Auto Store to Off.

Hello,

In order to maintain that the wind speed readings will be within spec, you should face the front of the unit towards the vacuum. You won't be able to see the screen though, so i would probably suggest using our Min/Max/Avg page for the readings. You can press start for Min/Max/Avg, take the reading and press stop for Min/Max/Avg and turn the screen around to see the results.

We do not recommend cleaning the sensors with any type of soap or chemical. This can affect the membrane and overall results of the unit. The one thing we can recommend is LIGHTLY cleaning the area out with a vacuum. Try not to get to close to the membrane and damage it however as it should be done as gently as possible.

Ideally the range is up to 100 feet. Probably closer to 50 feet most times. Depends on the conditions, any metal or water will definitely make it worse, even high humidity conditions.

You can set the Auto Shutdown to OFF and then you would need to manually turn it off each time.

We don't have the registration site up just yet. You will be covered based on the serial number of you unit however.

This may be a cache issue with the app not pulling down the latest version.

  1. Go to your Settings on the phone.
  2. Go to Apps or Application manager.
  3. Select the Kestrel LiNK Ballistics Application.
  4. Go to the Storage tab. Clear Cache in the app.
  5. Don't do Clear Data as this will erase gun profiles.
  6. After clearing the cache reconnect to the app and it should notify you of an update.

Make sure you have a good WIFI connection when connecting to download the firmware.

Let me know if you still have issues. The other option is to uninstall and reinstall the app but you will lose saved gun profiles in the app this way.

You will need to select the profiles that you want to send over before the Send button becomes active. At the top of the program is a "Select" button. Press this and radio boxes will appear next to your profiles. Check the boxes of the profiles you want to send and the Send button will be activated and should work then.

Please try this. Unplug all the peripheral from your computer including the Bluetooth dongle. Turn off the computer and wait 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, turn computer back on and replug in all the peripherals. After that, it should recognize the Bluetooth dongle.

If you do not need a compass to detect direction of fire or wind direction, then you can use the Kestrel 5000 with LiNK

Need LiNK version however as this is Bluetooth.

Or you can just go with the Kestrel DROP D3 for straight environmentals but no wind at all.

If you want to have the ability to calculate wind direction and direction of fire, the Kestrel 5500 with LiNK is the solution as this model contains a compass.

Again make sure you get the LiNK version.

Hello, We believe this is an app issue and are working on it. We are currently beta testing a new version of the app that will hopefully fix this issue. We hope to have this out in a week or so if all goes well. Please make sure you are not pairing the Kestrel directly to the phone/device. This is not necessary and can cause issues. If you did, please forget this pairing and try again. Sorry for the trouble but when you get a notification that the app has been updated, this should help.
