Description

For those of you who like to know just how cold and windy it really is, the Kestrel 2000 Pocket Wind Meter is your reality check. Winter sports enthusiasts around the world love Kestrel Meters. Thanks to the patented external temperature sensor, the Kestrel 2000 weather meter can take accurate water and snow temperature readings, and since it is isolated from the case, you can be sure that the temperature the Kestrel Meter is reading is accurate and not influenced by your hand warming the unit. Forget speculating, know exactly what the conditions are with the Kestrel 2000.

Kestrel Weather & Environmental Meters are designed & manufactured in the U.S.A and are backed by our 5-year warranty. Innovatively designed for stability and accuracy in abrupt condition changes. Rugged and durable, Kestrels are drop tested, waterproof and designed to float if dropped in water.

Kestrel 2000 Testimonial

"Before the course, I tossed the meter in the day-hatch of my kayak (not worrying overly about doing so since the meter is water resistant, drop-Tested to MIL-STD-810G and protected in it own plastic slip-case), ready to  pull it out once we had paddled out into Shallowbag Bay." -  Read Full Testimonial Here

Hermetically sealed, precision thermistor mounted externally and thermally isolated (US Patent 5,939,645) for rapid response. Airflow of 2.2 mph|1 m/s or greater provides fastest response and reduction of insolation effect. Calibration drift negligible. Thermistor may also be used to measure temperature of water or snow by submerging thermistor portion into material -- remove impeller prior to taking submerged measurements and ensure humidity sensor membrane is free of liquid water prior to taking humidity-based measurements after submersion.

0 to 100% Polymer capacitive humidity sensor mounted in thin-walled chamber external to case for rapid, accurate response (US Patent 6,257,074). To achieve stated accuracy, unit must be permitted to equilibrate to external temperature when exposed to large, rapid temperature changes and be kept out of direct sunlight. Calibration drift +/- 2% over 24 months. Humidity sensor may be recalibrated at factory or in field using Kestrel Humidity Calibration Kit (NK PN-0802).

Monolithic silicon piezoresistive pressure sensor with second-order temperature correction. Pressure sensor may be recalibrated at factory or in field. Adjustable reference altitude allows display of station pressure or barometric pressure corrected to MSL. Kestrel 4200 displays station pressure on a dedicated screen. Kestrel 2500 and 3500 display continuously updating three-hour barometric pressure trend indicator: rising rapidly, rising, steady, falling, falling rapidly. Kestrel 4000 series displays pressure trend through graphing function. PSI display on Kestrel 4000 series only.

Scale
0 to 360° 0 to 360° 2-axis solid-state magnetoresistive sensor mounted perpendicular to unit plane. Accuracy of sensor dependent upon unit's vertical position. Self-calibration routine eliminates magnetic error from batteries or unit and must be run after every full power-down (battery removal or change). Readout indicates direction to which the back of the unit is pointed when held in a vertical orientation. Declination/variation adjustable for True North readout.

Temperature indicated by a sling psychrometer. Due to nature of the psychrometric ratio for a water-air system, this approximates the thermodynamic wet-bulb temperature. The thermodynamic wet-bulb temperature is the temperature a parcel of air would have if cooled adiabatically to saturation temperature via water evaporating into it.

Temperature
Perceived temperature resulting from combined effect of wind speed and temperature. Calculated based on the NWS Wind Chill Temperature (WCT) Index, revised 2001, with wind speed adjusted by a factor of 1.5 to yield equivalent results to wind speed measured at 10m above ground. Measurement range limited by extent of published tables.

  1. Keep Your Workers Safe With Kestrel Instruments Keep Your Workers Safe With Kestrel Instruments Construction workers brave many hazards. Working with heavy equipment, at various heights, and in dangerous environmental conditions cause injuries consistently. In 2017, a total of 259 on-the-job deaths were reported – or 14.1 deaths per 100,000 full-time construction workers. Also that year, 21,760 nonfatal injuries were reported.
  2. Making Crane Operations Safer with Kestrel Weather Meters Making Crane Operations Safer with Kestrel Weather Meters The construction industry brings many challenges, but the weather doesn't have to be one of them. Operating heavy machinery such as crane operations requires a bit of planning. Using weather trackers, especially for wind speed, can aid in operation as well as safety.
  3. Measuring Wind Speed with the Kestrel 2000 Pocket Wind Meter Measuring Wind Speed with the Kestrel 2000 Pocket Wind Meter The Kestrel 2000 pocket wind meter is one of the best instruments for outdoor enthusiasts, especially for those who enjoy kiteboarding. Gaining popularity in the 1990s, kiteboarding is a water adventure sport that uses a kite to pull yourself on a board on top of the water. The kite is connected to a harness that’s strapped to your midsection, and the Kestrel 2000 wind meter can enhance the kiteboarding experience for pros and novices.
  4. Kestrel Meters in Nifty Shades of Green Greenery is the 2017 Color of the Year Pantone is a standardized color matching system used for printing purposes and in graphic design. The 2017 Pantone color of the year was recently announced and the winner is "Greenery". What is the PANTONE Color of the Year? "A symbolic color selection; a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our global culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude."
